Little cake (Ana Vafai) creates songs, teaches music, and performs in Buffalo, NY. Ana earned a Bachelors in Music Education at Eastman, and a Masters in Piano Performance at the University at Buffalo. She has held a teaching position as Director of Orchestras at Performing Arts (BPS#192) for more than 7 years. Ana's classical training paved the way for other things, and she began to sing and perform locally with the band RADARADA. By 2014 she had also joined with Jack Topht to form little cake n jack toft, first as a vocalist, then playing guitar and violin as well. This wild duo recorded two albums and traveled on three cross-country tours. In the Fall of 2015, Little cake began recording her own demos and assembled a small trio to perform these tunes by the next year. This ensemble, playfully titled The Little cake Cover Band, grew to a sextet of string players and vocalists. As bandleader, Ana is praised for her compositions, colorful arrangements and raw, animated stage presence. The band's performances have been known to saturate audiences with joy, emotion and whimsy, earning an award for “Best Local Music Act” by Bruce Adams with the Buffalo Spree in 2017. That same year, Ana was offered a residency she named “Little Wednesdays”, a 6-month variety show curated by Little cake and hosted biweekly at the renowned Allen St. Hardware. Little cake also organized and M.C'd three annual celebrations of the locally cherished “Little cake Thanksgiving Variety Show”, which involved the cooking of sauce on stage, drag performances, live bands, painting, film projections and poetry. As Little cake, Ana has recorded 7 studio albums, self-produced over 70 songs, and performed for over 10 years in her hometown. Her private studio is thriving and open to new students, and for producers in need of violin, viola, piano or vocals, she is available for studio collaborations.
